Grote vangst haring, weekend Aberdeen en meer kabeljauwachtigen - Large catch herring, weekend in Aberdeen and a more gadoids

Vrijdag 1 juli. Na trek 6 varen we over een gladde zee oostwaards. We zien nog steeds veel dode Jan van Genten drijven. Om 13:52 UTC verschijnen er rode kluiten op het echogram. We vissen hierop (trek 7). De scholen laten zich heel makkelijk vangen en hoewel het net snel wordt gehaald, zit er toch al een grote vangst in het net. Het is haring.

Friday July 1. After haul 6 we sail eastwards over a smooth sea. We still see many dead gannets floating. At 13:52 UTC, red clods appear on the echogram. We are fishing for this haul 7). The schools are very easy to catch and although the net is quickly hauled, there is already a large catch in the net. It's herring.

Om 21:32 UTC zijn we aan het einde van het transect op 58.04N-2.01O. 'sNachts varen we naar Aberdeen, waar om 10:15 aanleggen aan de kade. Hier brengen we het weekeinde door. Iedereen doet dat dat op zijn eigen manier. Bram fietst langs de rivier de Dee, via Banchory, om een ex-collega te bezoeken die vroeger ook vaak te gast was op de Tridens.

At 21:32 UTC we are at the end of the transect at 58.04N-2.01E. At night we sail to Aberdeen, where we moor at the quay at 10:15 am. This is where we spend the weekend. Everyone does that in their own way. Bram cycles along the River Dee, via Banchory, to visit an ex-colleague who used to be a frequent guest at the Tridens.

Maandagochtend 4 juli om 4:00 vertrekken we uit de haven van Aberdeen. Om 8:10 UTC starten we vanaf 57.50N-2.02W aan het volgende transect naar het oosten. Om 11:05 UTC zetten we uit voor trek 8 op een grote hoeveelheid kleine rode schooltjes boven de grond. De vangst bestaat uit jonge kever, maar er zit ook makreel, haring en sprot in de vangst.

Monday morning 4 July at 4:00 we leave the port of Aberdeen. At 8:10 UTC we start from 57.50N-2.02W on the next transect to the east. At 11:05 UTC we shoot the net for haul 8 on a multitude of small red schools above the ground. The catch consists of young Norway pout, but there is also mackerel, herring and sprat in the catch.

Om 21:04 UTC stoppen we voor de nacht op 57.49N-1.35O. Op dinsdagochtend 5 juli starten we vanaf die positie naar het oosten om 3:01 UTC. Om 4:52 UTC bereiken we het einde van het transect (57.49N-2.00O). We varen op hetzelfde transect weer terug omdat we onderweg wat echo-aantekeningen hebben gezien waarop we bij nader inzien toch willen vissen om te kijken wat het is. Om ongeveer 6:00 UTC vissen we (trek 9). Er is niets meer te zien op het echogram en de vangst is dan ook erg klein: 3kg schelvis. Vanaf de postie van trek 9 varen we schuin naar het begin van het volgende transect op 57.34N-1.59O. Hier starten we om 8:37 UTC op het nieuwe transect in westelijke richting.

At 21:04 UTC we stop for the night at 57.49N-1.35E. On Tuesday morning, July 5, we start from that position to the east at 3:01 UTC. At 4:52 UTC we reach the end of the transect (57.49N-2.00O). We sail back on the same transect as we saw some echo recordings along the way that on reflection makes us want to fish to see what it is. At about 6:00 UTC we fish (haul 9). There is no longer anything visible on the echogram and the catch is therefore very small: 3 kg haddock. From the position of haul 9 we sail diagonally to the start of the next transect at 57.34N-1.59E. Here we will start at 8:37 UTC on the new transect heading west.

De wind is afgelopen nacht gedraaid naar het noordwesten en toegenomen naar windkracht 6. De verwachting is dat deze nog verder zal toenemen en vanuit het noorden gaat waaien. Op dit moment valt het nog mee. Om 11:01 zien we wat flinke scholen aan de grond. We zetten uit voor trek 10. De vangst bestaat weer uit jonge kever en schelvis (en wat wijting).

The wind turned to the northwest last night and increased to force 6. It is expected to increase even further and to blow from the north. At the moment it's still okay. Hoewel er meer schelvis dan kever in de vangst van trek 10 zit, gaan we ervan uit dat het overgrote deel van de echo's op het echogram bestaan uit kever, omdat de kleine visjes ontsnappen door de grote mazen van het voornet. - Although there is more haddock than Norway pout in the haul 10 catch, we assume that the vast majority of echoes on the echogram are Norway pout, as the small fish escape through the large meshes of the front net.
