Op donderdag 30 juni starten we om 2:59 UTC vanaf 58.19N-1.36W in westelijke richting. Om 6:13 UTC bereiken we op 58.19N-2.35W het einde van het transect en zetten koers naar het begin van de geplande zigzag lijnen in de Moray Firth. Om 7:08 UTC starten we aan dit stuk transect op 58.26N-2.48W naar het zuidoosten tot we om 12:31 UTC op 57.51N-2.02W naar het noordwesten draaien. Om 14:53 op 58.03N-2.39W snijden we een stuk van het transect af, vanwege een groot windmolenpark, waar we niet doorheen mogen varen: we varen naar het westen tot 58.03N-3.23W, waar we om 17:00 UTC koers zetten naar het zuidoosten.

Trek 5, 30 juni 2022 57.54N-3.01W, 10kg kever (schelvis, sprot). - Haul 5, June 30, 2022 57.54N-3.01W, 10kg Norway (haddock, sprat).

Op dit stuk transect is de bodem minder grillig en er zijn ook echo's van visscholen te zien. We zetten hierop uit voor trek 5 om 19:23 UTC. Tijdens deze trek is er een storing in het systeem waarmee we kunnen zien hoeveel viskabel we uitvieren (Marelec), waardoor de trek veel langer duurt dan gepland. Ondanks de lange trekduur, bestaat de vangst slechts uit een kwart vismand: jonge kever, wat sprot en enkeleschelvissen. De conclusie is dat de schooltjes die we op het echogram zagen, uit kever bestaan en dat die - zodra ze in het net terechtkomen - weer ontsnappen door de grote mazen in het voornet.

The conclusion is that the schools we saw on the echogram consist of Norway pout and that - as soon as they enter the net - they escape again through the large meshes in the front net.

Op vrijdag 1 juli om 3:05 UTC starten we op 58.04N-2.17W in oostelijke richting. Om 4:31 UTC vissen we op kleine schooltjes, die zich eerste vooral aan het oppervlak bevinden, maar zich later verspreiden over de waterkolom en op de bodem. De vangst bestaat uit halve vismand jonge kever: ook dit keer is het overgrote deel van de vangst weer door de grote mazen van het voornet gezwommen.

On Friday, July 1, at 3:05 UTC, we start eastbound at 58.04N-2.17W. At 4:31 UTC we fish for small shoals, which at first are mainly located on the surface, but later spread over the water column and on the bottom. The catch consists of half a basket of young Norway pout: again this time the vast majority of the catch swam through the large meshes of the front net.
