Op 29 juni om 6:45 UTC verlaat de Tridens de haven van Scheveningen voor de akoestische survey voor haring en sprot in de Noordzee, kortweg HERAS. Over een heel kalme zee varen we naar het begin van het eerste transect. Op dinsdagmiddag 15:35 UTC starten we op 58.19.71N-2.00.16E in westelijke richting. We zien meteen scholen. Op de brug is er discussie: is dit haring of schelvis? We zetten het net uit om 16:20UTC voor trek 1: zwarte koolvis. Omdat er op het echogram verschillende soorten scholen te zien zijn, zetten we meteen daarna weer uit (18:36UTC, trek 2). Dit keer bestaat de vangst uit kever(75%) en schelvis (25%). In de hele vangst treffen 1 haring aan.
On June 29 at 06:45 UTC, Tridens departs from the port of Scheveningen for the acoustic survey for herring and sprat in the North Sea, known as HERAS. We sail across very calm seas to the start of the first transect. On Tuesday afternoon at 15:35 UTC, we begin heading west from position 58°19.71' N, 2°00.16' E. We immediately spot shoals. There is a discussion on the bridge: is this herring or haddock? We shoot the net at 16:20 UTC for haul 1: saithe. Because the echogram shows different types of shoals, we shoot the net again immediately afterwards (18:36 UTC, haul 2). This time, the catch consists of poor cod (75%) and haddock (25%). We find one single herring in the entire catch.
